A Look Into The League 2 2014/2015 Season

League 2 is the bottom division in English League football. Many young players who failed to make the cut at Premiership clubs drop down to this level. Where they try to continue their development and work their way back up the footballing ladder. Luton will be looking for back to back promotions after winning the Conference last season. Bury, Plymouth, Shrewsbury Town and York City will also be looking for a successful season, aiming for the automatic places. League 2 shows just how cut throat English football can be, in 2008 Portsmouth won the F.A cup, now they are amongst the favourites to win League 2 after finishing mid table last year. Cambridge United return to the football league for the 1st time since 2005 and look to stay here for another season. It also looks like a tough season ahead for Accrington Stanley, Exeter City, Morecambe and Wycombe Wanderers, who have a tough job of keeping their heads above water, and in league football.

A Look Into The League 1 2014/2015 Season

For 3 teams, the Championship awaits, newly relegated teams Doncaster, Barnsley and Yeovil will look to get back up the to that division. But it won't be easy for them, Sheffield United, Leyton Orient, MK Dons and Peterborough are strong contenders for promotion. Chesterfield, Fleetwood, Rochdale and Scunthorpe who all came up from League 2 look solid enough to get mid table finishes and look to build on that the following season. For many teams the possibility of dropping into the bottom tier of English League football is a reality. Survival will be the main objective for Colchester, Port Vale, Gillingham and Notts County. Keep an eye out for many Premiership youngsters who get loaned out to this level to gain experience, in one of the toughest divisions.

A Look Into The 2014/2015 Sky Bet Championship

This looks set to be one of the most open Championship races of all time. Recently relegated Cardiff, Fulham and Norwich will look to immediately bounce back up. They will be favourites for the title along with beaten play off finalists Derby and F.A. cup semi finalists Wigan. A host of former Premiership teams such as Blackburn, Bolton, Ipswich, Middlesbrough and Reading will hope to be in and around the play-off places come the end of the season. Along with Brighton who have never been at the Premier League. For many teams though survival will be the main objective, Birmingham and Blackpool were lucky to survive last season. Where by new boys Brentford and Rotherham will hope it isn't an immediate return to League 1. Watch out for the surprise package of the season in League 1 champions Wolves.

A Look Into The 2014/2015 Premiership Season (4)

Sunderland

Title odds - 2000/1
Relegation odds - 9/2
Last seasons finish - 14th

In came Gus Poyet who can preform miracles, seemingly down and out with just 6 games remaining, he said only a miracle could save them, that happened, not only did he save them, but he finished 14th. The final 6 games saw some incredible results including a 2-2 draw at Man City, a 1-0 win at Old Trafford and winning 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, which ended Jose Mourinho's Chelsea record of 77 unbeaten home games as Chelsea boss. The Sunderland fans also enjoyed a trip to Wembley, beating Man United on penalties in the semi final before losing 3-1 to Man City in the final of the League cup. The season started poorly for Sunderland after former manager Paolo Di Canio bought 14 new players, many of whom never made an impact. The only good buy were keeper Vito Mannone who was the star in the penalty shoot out win against Man United, and Fabio Borini who finished top scorer. One thing they will need to improve on this season is their discipline, Seven red cards was a league high. New signings Billy Jones and Jordi Gomez will add strength in depth to the squad.

Key players

Vito Mannone will again be the key player at Sunderland, he pulled off some amazing saves last season and earned Sunderland vital points to ensure they beat the drop. He'll face tough competition from new signing Costel Pantilimon which will keep him on his toes.

Wes Brown made his return last season after 18 months injured, there were question marks over his future in the game and he even considered retirement. But he came back and proved he still has lots to offer. Experienced and with a good understanding of the game, he formed a vital partnership with ex Man United team mate John O'Shea at the heart of Sunderlands defence. The only downside was he picked up 3 red cards last season.

Adam Johnson showed flashes of brilliance last season, he hit a hat trick against Fulham and scored many vital goals. His form made him an outsider for the England World Cup squad, with his strongest attribute being his crossing, forwards will love playing along side him.

Young player to watch

Connor Wickham came into the squad towards the end of the season. With main forward Steven Fletcher out for the season, and Jozy Altidore being in poor form with 1 goal in 30 games, all hopes were pinned on Wickham. He raised to the challenge and grabbed 5 goals in 3 games which proved vital in the results against Man City and Chelsea. The England under 21 international is starting to look like he can live up to his £8 million fee.

Prediction - 11th

Swansea

Title odds - 1500/1
Relegation odds - 5/1
Last seasons finish - 12th

Last season saw Swansea play in the Europa league, as a result of this their league form suffered. Tipped at the start of the season to finish in a European place, they were instead in a free fall heading for a relegation scrap. Michael Laudrup was sacked with the club 2 points from the relegation zone, and replaced by club captain Gary Monk as manager. With inexperienced Gary Monk in charge they achieved a mid table finish and will now look to build on that this season. Swans fans can look back at last season with a smile now. Knocking Man United out of the F.A cup at Old Trafford in the 3rd round was a shock result. But not as much as going to Valencia in the Europa league group stage and winning 3-0. This season they will have to deal without 2 key players. Both Michel Vorm and Ben Davies have joined Tottenham, with former Swansea loan star Gylfi Sigurdsson returning. They will look to the Icelandic international to replace another star who's leaving in Michu. One player Swansea need to keep is Wilfried Bony, without his 25 goals last season, Swansea would surely have joined rivals Cardiff in the championship. Bony will have a new partner upfront in Bafetinnbi Gomis, the former Lyon star joins on a free and was a proven goal scorer in France. With pacey winner Jefferson Montero and Arsenal's goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski other additions, Swansea will do a lot better this season I'm sure.

Key players

Ashley Williams is captain for both Swansea and Wales. A strong, solid centre back who controls the defence, he's the type of defender who would fit into any team. Swansea have tied him down to a new 4 year deal to keep the bigger clubs away and will look to him to lead by example this season.

Wilfried Bony is being linked to a move away from the Liberty Stadium. Saying that he wants to play in the champions league was bad news for Swansea. But their 25 goal hero is still there at the moment. They will look to him for goals again this time around and he'll need to score for Swansea to do well.

Ki Sung-Yueng was loaned to Sunderland last season, with an option of a recall in January. With key performing excellent and Swansea struggling, fans were angered when the 25 year old South Korean wasn't recalled. Back this season, he could form an interesting midfield trio with Jonjo Shelvey and Leon Britton.

Young player to watch

Stephen Kingsley made his debut for Falkirk at 16 and played over 100 games, being in last seasons SPFL championship team of the season. Still only 20, he's been bought to compete with Neil Taylor as the replacement for Ben Davies at left back. I fully expect him to be the winner come opening day of the season.

Prediction - 9th

Tottenham

Title odds - 66/1
Relegation odds - 300/1
Last seasons finish - 6th

Last season started with the sale of Gareth Bale for a world record fee of £85 million. Meaning Tottenham had over £100 million to spend on new players, being a team who narrowly missed out on champions league football over the last few seasons, many thought this season would be it. Andre Villas-Boas bought Roberto Soldado for £26 million but 6 goals in 28 games wasn't impressive. Young Roma star Erik Lamela was the direct replacement for Bale, at £30 million he managed only 1 goal and made just 17 appearances (many of them from the bench). Etienne Capoue cost £9 million but an injury hit season limited him to 18 games, and £17 million Brazilian midfielder Paulinho had an average season. The only successful signing was Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen 10 goals in 36 games proved a bargain at £11 million. A.V.B was sacked after poor results, new manager Tim Sherwood didn't do much better and was sacked at the end of the season. The only good he did was bring top scorer Emmanuel Adebayor back in to the team. Mauricio Pochettino has been brought in, but told 4th is a must this season, with a bit of time and a season of 2 that could be a reality, but chairman Daniel Levy must give him time. One thing that needs to be addressed by the new man is the defence, 5 times last season they lost by 4 or more. Results like that will not get you 4th.

Key players

Hugo Lloris is the best goal keeper in the league and maybe even the world. But he wants champions league football. Failure to get that, will result in him leaving at the end of the season. His performances might just get them there. With Michel Vorm waiting to take Lloris place in the team. The French keeper will be on top of his game again this season.

Jan Vertonghen is one of the senior defenders in the team, but is still young at 27, heavily relied upon he'll be the key man at the back again this season. With Ben Davies brought in as left back, Vertonghen will be back in his favourite role as centre back.

Christian Ericksen was the only bright light in Tottenham's dismal transfers last season. With goals not coming from the forwards he stepped up with 10 goals, and many assists. He'll be looking to get them figures again this time around.

Young player to watch

Harry Kane was given the chance when poor form from Soldado ment there was an opening in the team. One thing Tim Sherwood did was put his trust in youth players. Kane repaid that faith with 3 goals in 10 games. He also got 3 in 4 for England under 21s last year. With no forwards bought yet, next season he may be the main choice and push for an England 1st team call up.

Prediction - 6th

West Brom

Title odds - 5000/1
Relegation odds - 5/2
Last seasons finish - 17th

Last season was always going to be hard for Steve Clarke after loan signing Romelu Lukaku who was top scorer the previous season didn't want to return for a 2nd season on loan. Controversial forward Nicolas Anelka was brought in on a free, but in the early weeks of the season he walked out of training, saying he retired. He came back a few weeks later after compassionate leave. Only to celebrate with an anti-semitic quenelle gesture a few months later, after being fined, Anelka again walked away from the club. Early season results impressed. They won 2-1 at Old Trafford, Drew 2-2 at home to Arsenal and only a poor referee decision denied a win at Stamford Bridge, which ended in a 2-2 draw. But after 4 defeats in a row, Clarke was sacked, 1 win and 3 draws for caretaker Keith Downing made him the fans favourite. But West Brom opted for unknown Spanish manager Pepe Mel. 3 wins in 18 games for the Spanish man just about kept the club up. But wasn't enough to keep his job. New boss Alan Irvine will look to avoid another season like the last. He's bought well with free agents Craig Gardener and Jolean Lescott have come in, along with forward Brown Ideye.

Key players

Joleon Lescott is a surprise signing for the baggies. Winning 2 titles with Man City he was linked to moves in Spain, Italy and Turkey. But has decided to stay in England. His experience is second to none after a decade in the Premiership and will be a huge player this season. A good season could also see an England recall.

Youssouf Mulumbu isn't a household name, but he's appreciated by the faithful at the Hawthorns. Linked with moves to Arsenal after saying he wanted to play at a 'classier' club, another impressive season could see that move happen. With the ability to break up play in midfield. He'll be the 1st name in on Irvine's teamsheet.

Brown Ideye is a club record signing at £10 million after scoring 33 in 74 for Dynamo Kyiv. With Stephane Sessegnon and Saido Berahino top scorers with 5 league goals each last season, Ideye's goals will be crucial to the club. With a point to prove after missing out on the Nigerian World Cup squad, he'll look to hit the ground running for his new club.

Young player to watch

Saido Berahino broke into the 1st team last season and hit 9 goals in all competitions, his early season form saw calls for an England call up, but his form dipped towards the end of the season. With blistering pace he is a real handful for defenders. But he's still learning at this level and needs to improve in front of goal. He'll look to hit double figures this season.

Prediction - 12th

West Ham

Title odds - 2000/1
Relegation odds - 5/1
Last seasons finish - 13th

Last season saw Andy Carroll join the Hammers for £15 million after impressing on loan the previous year. Injuries limited him to only 15 games in which he scored twice. This time around he's injured again, this has prompted chairman David Sulivan to say they made a mistake buying him. The biggest mistake maybe was when they bought Carroll, they let Carlton Cole leave. Then were forced to bring him back as they were struggling for goals. With Modibo Maiga grabbing just 2 in 18. They turned to Italian forward Marco Borriello on loan in January, but after 2 games he was ruled out for the season by injury. Sam Allardyce has acted fast by bringing in 2 much needed forwards this summer. Argentine Mauro Zarate joins along with Enner Valencia who scored 3 goals for Ecuador at this summers World Cup. One player who will look to avoid injury this season is New Zealander Winston Reid who is a key man in a relatively weak defence, who only managed 21 games last season. Steel has been brought into the midfield with Senegal international Cheikhou Kouyate joining from Anderlecht. But Big Sam and the chairmen don't see eye to eye at the moment over transfers and the future of young star Ravel Morrison, who started well last season then fell out with Allardye and ended up on loan at Q.P.R. Will Big Sam still be there when the season starts?

Key players

Adrian started last season as back up to veteran Jussi Jaaskelainen but dislodged him mid season. Earning save of the season for a stunning one handed save from Oscar against Chelsea. The Spanish keeper will be looking for an impressive season again.

Kevin Nolan is Sam Allardyce main man, having gone from Bolton to Newcastle and then to West Ham with him, he is now club captain. Top scorer last season, the goal scoring midfielder will look to be amongst the goals again.

Mark Noble has come through the ranks at West Ham. He was voted player of the season by both fans and players last season. His never say die attitude, and passion for the club has made him a fans favourite for the club he loves.

Young player to watch

Deigo Poyet was Charlton's player of the year last season, despite only playing 20 games. A host of clubs came in for him (including Sunderland, managed by his dad Gus). The promising youngster can play for Spain, England or Uruguay, a good season could see him have a difficult choice to make as to who he represents at international level.

A Look Into The 2014/2015 Premiership Season (3)

Manchester United

Title odds - 5/1
Relegation odds - 1000/1
Last seasons finish - 7th

There will be no European nights at the theatre of dreams, for the 1st time in 25 years. Under David Moyes United struggled, and that's being kind. Knowing that the team needed strengthening, they were linked to big money players. A return for Cristiano Ronaldo, a move for Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas were all talked about. But in the end the only transfer was Marouane Fellaini who had played for Moyes at Everton. A £27.5 million fee was the price for the big Belgium midfielder, and he struggled to live up to that. With 12 goals in 36 the previous season, he failed to find the net once and poor form meant he only played 21 times in all competitions. With Robin Van Persie struggling for fitness he only managed 28 games scoring 18 times. That heaped the pressure on Wayne Rooney for goals and he got 19 in 40 games. With 12 defeats including rivals Liverpool and Manchester City doing the double over them, it was a season to forget. The only highlight for fans was Moyes being sacked with 4 games to go and club legend Ryan Giggs taking over as player manager. Experienced manager Louis Van Gaal will take over this season and has a major rebuild on his hands. With huge experience leaving the defence in Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra, he must start the rebuild there. So far young Southampton left back has been brought in for £30 million, but he needs experienced players along side him, and Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera. Another task at hand for L.V.G is the futures of fringe players like, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Nani, Tom Cleverly, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling among others. Could he be the man to get these players playing to their potential? Or does he cash in on them and buy much needed quality? With a rumoured £100 million plus to spend, expect a lot of transfer activity at Old Trafford.

Key players

David De Gea had a difficult start to life with Manchester United. But last season he ensured 7th was as bad as it got for United with some crucial saves. His performances were rewarded with the supporters and players voting him the clubs player of the season. He was also selected in the Spanish World Cup squad. At 23 he's still learning, but if United have a good season, De Gea will be one of the main reasons behind it.

Juan Mata was Chelsea's player of the season for the last 2 years. But the return of Jose Mourinho saw him drop down the pecking order. Moyes made him his 2nd and last transfer for £37 million. With 6 goals in 15, he might have had Jose wondering if he made the right choice. The type of player that Van Gaal likes he'll be a key player this season playing just behind the forwards.

Robin Van Persie was Van Gaal's captain during the World Cup in Brazil, and is strongly rumoured to take the armband at Old Trafford this season. The main goal threat for United, with 38 goals in 59 games, he'll be amongst the goals again this season. With fitness issues meaning he misses games, no European competitions this season might help his cause.

 Young player to watch

Adnan Januzaj was one player to benefit under Moyes. Given his debut against Wigan in the community shield and made his Premiership debut a month later. He shot to fame with 2 goals to beat Sunderland 2-1 and became a main player for United. The fast footed winger gives defenders a headache and is a tricky player to defend against. One thing he'll have to change is his diving which earned him 3 yellow cards last season.

Prediction - 5th

Newcastle United

Title odds - 1000/1
Relegation odds - 8/1
Last seasons finish -  10th

It's been a busy summer at St James Park. Goals were hard to come by last season, with on loan Loic Remy being top scorer with 13. But Remy has now left, so forward Emmanuel Rivière has been brought in from Monaco to try get goals along with the out of form Papis Cisse. But to help the forwards, Newcastle have bought in some real quality attacking midfielders. Siem De Jong joins from Ajax who had 57 goals in 168 games along with Remy Cabbela who got 24 goals in 97 games for Montpellier. Alan Pardew will hope they get the same figures at Newcastle. Question marks constantly remain over captain Fabricio Coloccini future who is a vital cog in the Newcastle team. Debuchy has left to join Arsenal, but Holland international Daryl Janmaat who had an impressive World Cup joins and should be a great addition. With 7 defeats in 8 at the end of the season, and Alan Pardew being sent off for head butting Hull player David Meyler. Newcastle will hope this season starts better than the last one ended. Once again the core to the team will be the French players. With no fewer than 8 in the 1st team squad, but one of them players who seems to be on the way out is Hatem Ben Afra. A favourite of the fans, they will hope he stays, but Alan Pardew doesn't seem to think he needs him anymore.

Key players

Tim Krul is rated as one of the best keepers in the league, he's been Newcastle's number one for the past few seasons and many thought he might want a change. This summer saw him linked to big European clubs including both AC Milan and Inter Milan, but he's staying at St James Park for now. He made crucial saves throughout the season earning player of the month in November. Newcastle will hope he repeats his heroics of last season again.

Remy Cabella joins from Montpellier and has signed a 6 year deal. He was key when the French surprise package team won the title in 2012. An impressive showing last season saw him called up to the French World Cup squad as a late replacement. At 24 he has the best years ahead of him, Newcastle will hope he adapts to life in England fast.

Moussa Sissoko is a typical box to box midfielder, and is a key player for Newcastle. With his energy in midfield he can dictate the play. Not afraid to tackle and with pace to bomb forward, opposition players need to be on their game. He can be defending a set piece on the edge of his own box, then seconds later be putting the ball in the opponents net.

Young player to watch

Curtis Good could get a chance to impress in the centre of Newcastle's defence this season. At 21 the Australian international was unlucky that injury ruled him out of the World Cup. He'll be hoping that he's fit and pushing for a place in the 1st team come the start of the season.

Prediction - 7th

Q.P.R.

Title odds - 7500/1
Relegation odds - 2/1
Last seasons finish - 4th (championship)

Moneybags Q.P.R. were supposed to win the Championship title last season. Instead they struggled, and were forced to go through the agony of the play offs. Harry Redknapp said has he not got promotion he would have retired. But they are back in the big time, and will look to do better than their bottom placed finish last time around. They only managed to score 60 goals last season, that is something they need to improve on desperately. But with 17 goal top scorer Charlie Austin and Play off hero Bobby Zamora the only forwards at the club, they'll need to bring in more. With Loic Remy still at the club, but looking likely to leave, free agent Samuel Eto'o has been linked. But Eto'o will come with big wage demands, and after the mistake of playing big wages to players last time around, they'll think twice about it again. One area they have strengthened in is at defence, experienced Rio Ferdinand joins on a 1 year free, this could prove to be the signing of the season. But at 35, fitness issues surround him, can he play every game in a season that Q.P.R will desperately need him to?. Ferdinand will joined with a new defensive partner in Cardiff's captain Steven Caulker. The 1 capped England man will hope to learn from Ferdinand's years of experience at the top. A good season will rely heavily on how these to preform in the centre of defence.

Key players

Charlie Austin will be the main man upfront for 'arrys men. Top scorer for the club last season, there will be huge pressure on him for his 1st attempt at the big time. Linked with clubs including Arsenal before joining Q.P.R. he'll look to prove that the top level of English football is where he belongs.

Joey Barton took to twitter after Q.P.R. got relegated last time and said that there would be no chance of his playing in the Championship. So it was a bit of a surprise when he ended up being in the starting XI for their 1st league game last season. But he proved to be a vital player in the push for promotion, with bags of Premiership experience, he'll be key again. Hopefully for Q.P.R. this won't be the Joey Barton who in his last Premiership game got sent off against Man City. Also good news for England, he's out of international retirement...

Rio Ferdinand has been a top defender in the Premiership over 15 years. Being a key player for Man U making over 300 appearances winning 6 titles. Ryan Giggs said that he should be United's main centre back this season. His experience is second to none, he turned down big money moves to U.S.A and China to help out the manager who give him his 1st team chance at West Ham in 1996. With only a 1 year deal, a good season could see a new contract being offered.

Young player to watch

Matt Philips will look to use his pace against defenders this season. At 22 he's still learning his trade and will gain experience playing at the top level of English football. Keep an eye out of the Scottish international this season.

Prediction - 13th

Southampton

Title odds - 1250/1
Relegation odds - 13/2
Last seasons finish - 8th

You have to feel sorry for Southampton right now. Coming off the back of their best ever league finish, manager Mauricio Pochettino left to go to Tottenham, after a good season, 3 of their key English players got a call up to England's World Cup squad. This would have been 4, but Jay Rodriguez got injured. The 1st of them 3 players to leave was Rickie Lambert, joining Liverpool. Adam Lallana soon followed him to Anfield. Then teenage sensation Luke Shaw moved to Man United. This would be bad enough for any club, let alone a small team like Southampton. Seeing all these players leave has caused other players to question their futures at St Marys. Callum Chambers seems almost set to join Arsenal. Another player Morgan Schneiderlin could move to london, with Arsenal and Tottenham linked. Whilst main centre back Dejan Lovren has stated he'll go on strike if he doesn't get a move to Anfield. New manager Ronald Koeman is coming into a club having a mini crisis. But with all these sales, there is money to spend. Italian forward Pelle Graziano has come with him from Feyenoord. Whilst Dusan Tadic comes from FC Twente with a record of 28 goals in 66 games. With Koeman favouring a silk passing football game, the remaining players will be able to adapt fast to his philosophy of play. One player the Saints will look to is Victor Wanyama, a £12.5 million signing from Celtic last season will need to add steel to a midfield.

Key players

Jose Fonte was unlucky not to get an international call up for Portugal for the summers World Cup. He formed a great understanding with young Croatian defender Dejan Lovren. Club captain has been linked with a move to recently relegated Cardiff in recent weeks. But he has the talent to play at the top level and Southampton will really hope that the fans favourite stays.

Graziano Pelle had 50 goals in 57 games for Ronaldo Koeman at Feyenoord, so it was no surprise when he was his 1st buy as Southampton manager. Good scoring records in the Dutch league don't always mean the player will click with Premiership life. Southampton fans will hope he isn't their version of Alfonso Alves.

James Ward-Prowse has already played 50 times for the Southampton 1st team and is still only 19. During last season he played for under 19,20 and 21 level for England. Another quality player to come through the clubs youth academy will be key in replacing Adam Lallana this season.

Young player to watch

Sam Gallagher is a young forward who made an impression on the 1st team towards the end of last season, another youth academy graduate will look to get more 1st team chances this season. Recently switched his international choice from England to Scotland. It won't be long until he'll be in the full Scotland squad and pushing for a starting spot at club and country.

Prediction - 14th

Stoke

Title odds - 1000/1
Relegation odds - 10/1
Last seasons finish - 9th

Mark Hughes has done the impossible and got Stoke playing attractive football. Not only are they playing good football, but they sill have the 'bully boy' attitude that the bigger teams don't like. No team likes going to the Britannia Stadium, they beat Chelsea (3-2) Man United (2-1) and Arsenal (1-0) there last season. Stoke have bought well this summer so far. Make Biram Diouf scored 26 in 57 at Hannover 96, but he's remembered more for not getting a chance at Man United, so he has a point to prove in English football. Steve Sidwell and Phil Bardsley are experienced premiership players who will add something to the team. The biggest strength in Stokes armoury is the presence of their players, Charlie Adam, Robert Huth and Steven N'Zonzi are not afraid to put their weight about and intimidate the opposition. With Marko Arnautovic they have a real game changer who will look to fed the forwards. He can also grab a spectacular goal from time to time. The most exciting signing has to be Bojan from Barcelona, with 26 in 104 for Barca, he was tipped as the next Lionel Messi (some praise) and was capped by Spain at 18. But a few seasons away on loans, getting only 14 goals in 76 games at AC Milan, Roma and Ajax, the 23 year old will want to get his career back on track.

Asmir Begovic is always a wanted man by top European clubs in the summer. The keeper is one of the most consistent performers in the league. He has stated he is happy at Stoke. The Bosnian international is a great shot stopper and makes his defence at ease knowing that he's behind them. Sure to be a key player for Stoke again this season, and who knows he might score a goal again.

Peter Odemwingie started the season at Cardiff, but wasn't always 1st choice, he left in January and joined Stoke is a swap deal for Kenwyne Jones, whilst Jones failed at Cardiff, Odemwingie flourished, scoring 5 in 15, his good form saw him return to the Nigerian team for the World Cup. The quick forward who is a lethal finisher will look to keep Bojan and Diouf on the sidelines this season.

Steve Sidwell will look to forget about last season, relegated with Fulham he was one of the only players to come out of the season with any praise. A good ball winner in midfield, who is calm and at ease with the ball is an excellent signing for Stoke. A key factor to joining Stoke was their attractive style of play he stated and with Mark Hughes being another reason why. He'll hope this season doesn't end like the last.

Young player to watch

Dionatan Teixeira is a new signing from Slovakian side Dukla Banska Bystrica. The Slovakian under 21 international is strong and physical. Mark Hughes said Stoke had been monitoring him for awhile, and recently likened him to a former player of his Ryan Nelsen.

A Look Into The 2014/2015 Premiership Season (2)

Everton

Title odds - 100/1
Relegation odds - 100/1
Last seasons finish - 5th

Roberto Martinez wasn't every Everton fans first choice as their new manager. Bill Kenwright took the gamble on a new manager after 11 years under David Moyes when he left for Man U, and it paid off. Martinez now had the quality players to play the attractive style of football he wanted. That style of football nearly got Everton into the Champions league. With loans players Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku key to Everton's season. Barry returns on a 3 year free deal, and he'll again link up with James McCarthy. The pair gelled together quickly and will be key again in the centre of midfield. Top scorer Lukaku could return with a £20 million move from Chelsea. But if that deal doesn't go forward, goals will be hard to come by. With Kevin Mirallas, Steven Naismith and Arouna Kone not 20 goal a season forwards, a new striker is a must to repeat or better last seasons finish. Everton's defence will again be the catalyst to success. Tim Howard was 1 of the best goal keepers in the league last year, and a big reason why Everton had only 1 defeat at Christmas. With a record points total of 72, last season might be hard to repeat.

Key players

Phil Jagielka is captain and the main man in defence. Injury towards the end of last season showed when he played for England at the World Cup. He has created a good understanding with Distin in the centre of defence. But with Distin at 36, it could be young star John Stones along side Jagielka. Jagielka will hope to share his experience and the Everton centre backs could be teaming up for club and country.

Leighton Baines is as important to Everton's attack as he is to the defence. With 6 league goals the free kick and penalty specialist not only stops goals, but creates and scores them at the other end. His understanding on the left side with Steven Pienaar is sure to create plenty of chances again.

Ross Barkley yet another member of England's World Cup squad. Barkley shows that there are young quality players in the Premiership. He quickly rewarded Martinez faith in him with a few man of the match displays at the start of the season. With a keen eye for spectacular goals (won goal of the season for a volley against Man City) Martinez has called him a mix of Paul Gascoigne and Michael Ballack, some high praise.

Young player to watch

John Stones last summer was at the under 20 World Cup with England. 12 months later he was on the standby list for England's World Cup squad, and unlucky not to be included for Brazil. With Distin in what is probably his last season, Stones could very well be rewarded for last season as the main centre back along side Jagielka.

Prediction - 8th

Hull

Title odds - 5000/1
Relegation odds -  11/4
Last seasons finish - 16th

Hull were one of the favourites to go down this time last season, but ensured their safety with a month of the season remaining. Wins against Liverpool and hammering Fulham 6-0 were season highlights. To top that Hull will make their first ever appearance in Europe. After getting to the F.A cup final (losing 3-2 aet to Arsenal, after leading 2-0 within 15 minutes) means they'll enter the Europa league at the 3rd qualifying phase. Although Hull fans will be enjoying European nights at the KC stadium, this could seriously harm their league form. Curtis Davies and Tom Huddlestone were unlucky not to receive England call ups after their great season displays. After a poor World Cup display from England, they may get the opportunity this time around. January signings and top scorers Shane Long and Nikica Jelavic (4 goals each) came with big price tags. They immediately formed a great partnership and that will be crucial to survival this season. 38 goals in 38 games and 21 defeats might not be good enough this time around. Robert Snodgrass and Tom Ince have both been signed to try and help get that goals tally up. More signings are still needed by Steve Bruce to cope with the demands of European, league and cup games.

Key players

Ahmed Elmohamady was the only Hull player to play in all 38 league games last season, the attack minded wing back provides crosses which Long and Jelavic will crave. With his versatility, he'll be Steve Bruce's go to man again.

Tom Huddlestone joined for a club record at the start of last season. Many believed Hull was a step down for him, but his displays saw a big call for him to be England's holding midfielder at the World Cup, but these calls were ignored by Roy Hodgson, with a eye for goal and great from set pieces, he'll be pushing for an England recall again.

Curtis Davies joined for £2.25 million and was seen as Bruce paying over the odds. But it proved to be a bargain and Davies was one of the signings of the season. Ignored by Hodgson despite a lack of quality centre backs for England, he'll be out to prove a point again this season.

Young player to watch

Tom Ince started the season in the championship for Blackpool, after an impressive start he was linked with a return to Liverpool where he was a youth player. An impressive loan deal in the premiership with Crystal Palace proved he could make it in the top flight. A host of clubs including Inter Milan came in for the free agent, but he opted to join Hull and looks like an exciting player to see at the KC this season.

Prediction - 15th

Leicester City

Title odds - 5000/1
Relegation odds -  13/5
Last seasons finish - 1st (championship)

Last season saw Leicester set championship records with the highest points total (102) and most wins (31). They were top of the league from Boxing Day and gained promotion with 6 games remaining, and won the title ahead of Burnley with 2 games to spare. Home form was good for Nigel Pearson's men last season and will need to repeat that again. Kasper Schmeichel had a taste of Premiership football with Manchester City in his early 20's, after signing a new deal will be ready for what will be a busy season ahead. Another key player who has top level experience is one time capped England man Dave Nugent. He won't have fond memories of previous visits to the top flight. Strike partner Jamie Vardy who was second highest scorer behind Nugent with 16 goals, will look to get his share of goals himself. As to will summer signing Leonardo Ulloa who was a regular Championship scorer for Brighton. Centre back pair Wes Morgan and Liam Moore will be tested to their limits against some of the worlds top forwards. Experienced defender Matthew Upson has been given a final premier league chance. At 35 his experience of relegation battles will be crucial if Leicester are to remain in the top flight.

Key players

Liam Moore at only 21 has a bright future ahead of himself. Arsenal, Man U and Tottenham have all been linked to the England under 21 international in recent months. A good season here and Leicester might struggle to keep the young star at the King Power stadium.

Dave Nugent will look to final live up to the potential he had when he won and scored in his only England cap 7 years ago. Poor showings in 4 seasons with Portsmouth and Burnley scoring only 6 goals in over 60 games, means he has a point to prove.

Marc Albrighton had a promising start to his career with Aston Villa, but fell out of favour with manager Paul Lambert. At 24 he has some much needed top flight experience, which Leicester don't have much of. He can also chip in with a few goals from midfield, and with goals possibly hard to come by, every goal will be crucial.

Young player to watch

Chris Wood never really got the chance at the top flight with former club W.B.A. Being loaned out many times where he scored on a regular basis for teams in the championship. At 22 and with 12 goals in 34 games for New Zealand, he has shown he can do it at international, now can he do it at Premiership?

Prediction - 19th

Liverpool

Title odds - 10/1
Relegation odds - 1000/1
Last seasons finish - 2nd

Champions league nights are back at Anfield. The dream was to break back into the top 4, but they almost went all the way. Gerrard's slip against Chelsea saw the title dream fade away from Liverpool, Throwing away a 3 goal lead to draw 3-3 with Crystal Palace ended it. With Luis Suarez scoring 31 league goals and Daniel Sturridge getting 21 the reds were almost impossible to beat. Scoring 101 goals over the season. Big wins against Tottenham (0-5 and 4-0) Everton (4-0) Arsenal (5-1) and Man U (0-3) showed that Liverpool were ready to be back where they belong, at the top end of the table. Brendan Rodgers took a team that was finishing outside the European places and made Anfield a place to fear again. This season might not be as good of a season as last year. With top scorer Suarez leaving for Barcelona, Rickie Lambert has been brought in, along with Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic to try and get the goals that will be missed from the Uruguayan. With a strong English core in Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson, Raheem Stirling, Glen Johnson and Daniel Sturridge already there, Lambert and Lallana should adapt quickly. One area that needs looking at is the full back areas which could prove to be a weakness, with fitness concerns over Glen Johnson. This could mean that young John Flanagan who impressed when called upon last season could be used again.

Key players

Daniel Sturridge will now be Liverpool's main up top. Often coming out on to the wings last season swapping with Suarez, he'll relish the chance to stay forward and will look to better the 21 goals he got last term. With his pace and finishing ability Liverpool will want to get the ball to him as much as possible.

Steven Gerrard will forever be haunted by the moment he slipped, and Demba Ba raced through to all but end his dream of lifting the title. The one club man has recently retired from international duty, which is great news for Liverpool. He has become vital in his new role as the holding midfielder. Whilst the days of Gerrard bombing forward might have gone, he can still pick out the killer pass. He'll be hoping that this year he might see his dream come true.

Jordan Henderson almost became a Fulham player 2 seasons ago. Not valued at the club, he was offered as part of a swap for Clint Dempsey, but that deal fell through. He was then given the chance when others were out injured in midfield and has stayed there since. Becoming a key man for club and country. With Gerrard sitting just behind him, he knows he has the opportunities to push forward. With a good eye for a pass, and not afraid to go for goal himself when the times right, he'll be key to Brendan Rodgers plans this year again.

Young player to watch

Raheem Stirling exploded on to the scene last season with his raw pace and ability to run at defenders. Chipping in with his fair share of goals also. Real Madrid were heavily linked with him this summer. But he's to stay at Anfield this year and Liverpool will look to him to provide the forwards with goal scoring chances. An exciting player for club and country, he'll be looking forward to show his talents on the European stage against the best.

Prediction - 4th

Manchester City

Title odds - 12/5
Relegation odds - 1500/1
Last seasons finish - 1st

Manchester City won the premier league for the 2nd time in 3 years. With Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo all hitting double figures, all hitting double figures in the league, they have the most feared attacking line up in England. Add to that vice captain Yaya Toure who 20 plus goals last season, and the likes of David Silva, Jesus Navas, Samir Nasri and Steven Jovetic and their line up strikes fear into the opposition. They have strengthened their squad this season with the signing of free agent Bacary Sagna from Arsenal. Who along with right back rival Pablo Zabeleta are 2 of the best in the world in their field. Fernando another new signing will help Fernandinho as the holders in midfield. All is not flowers and rainbows at the Etihad stadium though. With Yaya Toure unhappy that the club didn't wish him happy birthday, he said he wanted to leave. But he remains at the club for now, seemingly calling the 'incident' nothing major. It remains to be seen if he wants to stay at the club or if lack of interest has forced him to stay. One thing for sure is he'll once again be key for Manchester City if he has his heart in Manchester. With Champions League the holy grail for the owners, it will be interesting to see that if an early Champions League exit again will mean the axe for Manuel Pellegrini. Even with the Leauge cup and Premiership last season. It seemed the City owners wanted more. It could be European glory or bust for Pellegrini next season, no matter what happens domestically.

Key players

Vincent Kompany is the captain and the glue that keeps the team together at the back. Not only is he a solid defender, but also a handful at corners and free kicks in the other half. When he got injured at times last season, City looked vulnerable at the back, they'll hope to keeper their skipper fully fit this season to fight for glory at home and in Europe.

Sergio Aguero on his day is unplayable, with 52 goals in 87 games for City he is their main goal threat, not only does he get goals, but he has the ability to get other players into the game. He and Negredo formed a lethal partnership at the start of last season. But hamstring injuries made the second half of the season stop, start. After not featuring that much for Argentina at the World Cup, City will hope he's 100% come the start of the season.

Yaya Toure got 20 league goals last season, and he's supposed to be a holding midfielder. The signing of Ferdandinho last season ment that Yaya could push forward more. Deadly from free kicks and penalties, he'll grab a few more this season. He's a big intimidating figure in the centre of the park and has the ability to match it. Unrest with the club during the close season overshadowed a great season, City fans will hope that all that is in the past come August.

Young player to watch

Matija Nastasic was limited to only 13 games last season due to injury, but the season before that he was key in defence with Kompany. Still only 22 and an established international with Serbia he can be a key player for years to come. Strong interest from Arsenal has been talked about, along with Man City looking into signing Porto's French defender Eliaquim Mangala. No matter where Nastasic plays next season, he has the ability to strengthen any teams defence.

A look Into The 2014/2015 Premiership Season

Arsenal

Title odds - 6/1
Relegation odds - 750/1
Last seasons finish - 4th

Last season could be one of the most important in Arsene Wenger's time at Arsenal. A 3-1 home defeat on opening day to Aston Villa. Fans still craving a world class signing, all this cranked the pressure up on him to maximum. With many fans calling for his head, he signed Ozil from Real Madrid for a club record fee £42.5 million. Suddenly there was a feel good factor around, Arsenal  went to the top of the league. After leading the title race for many months, and coming through a champions leauge group which included Dortmund and Napoli, Arsenal fans again began dreaming of silverware. But injuries to key players, indifferent form of Ozil, and heavy defeats to Liverpool (5-1) Everton (3-0) and Chelsea (6-0) threatened to not only take Arsenal out of the title race, but also out of the champions league places. Wenger did what Wenger does, he guided Arsenal to 4th place and champions league football for an 18th straight season. On top of that they beat Hull 3-2, and took their 1st trophy into the Emirates trophy cabinet and end a 9 year wait. Could the floodgates now open? A big loss to Arsenal will be Sagna, leaving on a free to title rivals Manchester City. But they have signed a good replacement in Debuchy. Who is keeping Sagna out of the French team. Along with another huge summer signing in Alexis Sanchez. People are taking Arsenal as serious title contenders again for the 1st time since the 'invincibles' squad. With many more big names linked, and money available, expect to see 1 or 2 more signings before the season starts. Along with key players returning to full fitness in Wilshere, Ox and Walcott, Arsenal now seem to have a strong squad which could go the whole distance this time around.

Key players

Alexis Sanchez will take the pressure of Giroud and give Arsenal a different option in attack, with 19 goals and 10 assists for Barcelona last season, Arsenal will look for a similar return this season.

Aaron Ramsey wasn't even sure of a place on the Arsenal bench this time last season. When injuries to other midfielders gave him the chance he took, had he not got injured himself many wonder what could have been last season. 16 goals in 34 games shows how vital he will be.

Mesut Ozil didn't live up to his big price tag last season and seemed to struggle to adapt to Premiership life. But with a season under his belt, this year might show why he led the assists charts through Europe over his last 3 seasons with Real Madrid.

Young player to watch

Joel Campbell proved last season at Olympiakos that he can do a good job and the highest level. He helped Olympiakos to the knockouts of the champions league, scoring a great solo effort against Man United. He then followed this up with a good showing as underdogs Costa Rica went to the World Cup quarter finals. Could he show Wenger that he doesn't need to sign a £30 million forward?

Prediction - 1st

Aston Villa

Title odds - 4000/1
Relegation odds - 5/2
Last seasons finish - 15th

Once upon a time Villa used to be top 7 and have decent cup runs, now they seem to get dragged into relegation fights and have early cup exits. Poor transfer signing give villa a young and inexperienced squad which struggles with the high quality of the league. Bringing in Roy Keane (who turned down the chance to manage Celtic to be Villa assistant) could bring the fear factor to the club forcing the younger players to up their game. But at the same time it could also have the opposite effect. Keane isn't one to mince his words, it will be interesting to see how he deals with the younger players, especially given that with a poor start he may even step up to become manager should Lambert be sacked. This summer Lambert has decided to opt for experience in the transfer market. Kieran Richardson and Philippe Senderos will provide much needed premiership experience, Along with Joe Cole who has been given what must be a last top flight lifeline. If Villa can get the Joe Cole who played for Chelsea then it could prove to be the signing of the season, but that's if. One place they must improve on if up front, with Benteke injured most of last season he still finished top scorer with 11, but for the last 2 seasons they have relied on the big man to get them goals to stay up, and with him looking likely to leave after this season they need to share the goals around more. Nicklas Bendtner has strongly been linked on a free transfer, could he be the 15-20 goal forward that Villa desperately need to avoid another disappointing season? Brad Guzan will again need to be in top form. The big American stopper kept Villa in games with crucial saves last year. With the future of the club still up in the air it looks like it could be another long, hard, nail biting season for the Villa fans.

Key players

Ron Vlaar is the rock at the heart of the Villa defence, and an experienced head in a young Villa back four will be crucial to how the season goes for them. After a solid World Cup for Holland he's been linked to Q.P.R. Southampton and Man United in recent weeks, they must keep him at all costs to keep their top flight status.

Christian Benteke was a man in demand last summer. With his first season in English football ending with a 20 goal plus debut season. Villa gave him a new contract and kept big European clubs away. Injury hampered the start of the season for him and he suffered indifferent form. When he did hit form and looked like firing Villa away from a relegation scrap, he got injured again, which ruled him out of the World Cup. Hopefully Villa can get him fit and firing on all cylinders this season cause when he plays well, the whole team does.

Fabian Delph has been at Villa for 5 seasons after they beat competition to sign the Leeds youngster. He was tipped to be a key England international by now, but has yet to get an England cap. An impressive season last season saw that maybe the one time wonderkid could force himself into the England picture this season. A big season ahead for Delph to prove that he can live up to the hype that surrounded him a few seasons ago.

Young player to watch

Jores Okore the young Danish centre back only managed 3 games before his season was ended by injury, but he looks highly promising. Villa will hope to use him in the centre of defence alongside Vlaar so that he can pick up vital experience from his centre back partner and hopefully go on to lead the line for Villa for many seasons to come

Burnley

Title odds - 10,000/1
Relegation odds - 1/2
Last season finish - 2nd (championship)

When Charlie Austin left for Q.P.R. last season nobody could have imagined that at the end of the season Burnley would be going up as Championship runner ups, in one of Europe's most competitive divisions. Danny Ings and Sam Vokes stepped up to take over from Austin with 21 and 20 goals respectively. A big part of them getting promotion was down to their home form, Every point at Turf Moor could prove vital at the end of the season. Sean Dyche is a young exciting manager who looks to have a good future in the top flight, but lack of experience may be their downfall this season. Steven Reid and Matty Taylor have been brought in to give much needed experience. Marvin Sordell and Lukas Jutkiewicz have been signed to provide competition for Vokes and Ings, but apart from a brief spell for Sordell none of them have Premiership experience. Matt Gilks has been brought in to provide cover for Tom Heaton. Even the most die heart Burnley fan will admit that this season will be a struggle. Burnley need to just enjoy this season, not panic and sack Dyche if results don't go their way. Use this season as a learning period that can hopefully be used to build this team for another crack at championship promotion next season.

Key players

Danny Ings took over as the main goal threat for Burnley after the departure of Charlie Austin to Q.P.R. his goal scoring in the championship was rewarded in an England under 21 call up. His goals will be vital if Burnley are to have an chance of survival. Continue this season as he did the last, and he could follow ex teammate Jay Rodriguez steps and make the England squad.

Steven Reid has agreed to help ex team mate Dyche out and signed a one year deal, his knowledge of playing a decade in the premiership along with his fair share of relegation battles will give Burnley much needed experience. At 33 the ex Republic of Ireland international versatility of playing in defence and midfield will play a big part this season.

Kieran Trippier has been named in the championship team of the year for the past two seasons, it's a big step up from championship to premiership. But the former Man City youth player who has played at the Nou Camp, has a chance to show why a few premiership teams, including Arsenal are keen to sign him. This is a perfect time to shine for him and Burnley.

Young player to watch

Cameron Howieson is already an international with New Zealand. He was part of the London 2012 New Zealand squad, playing in all 3 games. With only 2 substitute appearances to his name, he's more likely to be loaned out this season. But if given a chance, keep an eye out for him.

Chelsea

Title odds - 7/4
Relegation odds - 1500/1
Last seasons position - 3rd

Last season saw the return of the 'happy one' Jose Mourinho. In came Schurrle and Willian to join Oscar and Hazard in one of Europe's most excited midfields. He signed his treble winning forward from his time at Inter Milan in Samuel Eto'o. At 33 his best years might have been behind him, but with 11 goals in 30 games, including a hat trick against Man United he became a fans favourite. But fitness issues with Eto'o and poor form from Demba Ba and Fernando Torres, ultimately cost Chelsea the title. This caused many people to question why he had loaned Lukaku out (something that looks likely to happen again this season). This season should be different with Mourinho acting fast in the transfer market. Selling David Luiz to PSG for £50 million proved a good piece of business given that he wasn't even first choice centre back. Reinvesting that money in Spanish international and ex Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas. Along with 3 players who were part of the Atletico Madrid team that beat them in the semi finals of the champions league. Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois (returned from loan) seems to be the final pieces of Mourinhos Chelsea puzzle. Lampard and Cole have moved on, but fans favourite Didier Drogba returns on a one year deal. With 2 good players for each position plus a lot of youth players able to step up, there's no reason why Chelsea won't be fighting in every competition. The only headache Mourinho has is trying to keep every player happy. Nobody seems certain of a place in the starting XI.

Key players

Nemanja Matic was bought back in the January transfer window from Benfica. Chelsea lacked a quality holding midfielder. An unsung hero in the centre of the park, he was badly missed during Chelsea's champions league run. He will be key to Chelsea's success when the likes of Hazard, Oscar, Fabregas and Willian push forward.

Diego Costa was the key reason that Atletico Madrid topped La Liga ahead of Real and Barca and got to the champions league final. But an injury in that final and a poor World Cup has cast doubt over if he is the World Class forward that Chelsea crave. If he is then Chelsea will be hard to beat.

Thibaut Courtois is back at Chelsea after 3 seasons on loan at Atletico Madrid. He comes back as one of the highest regarded keepers in the world at only 22. Set to dislodge Cech as Chelsea number 1 the jersey could be his for the next decade if he wants it.

Young player to watch

Kurt Zouma was bought in January and stayed at St Etienne on loan, rumours still say he could remain there for the coming season. But given the chance in the Chelsea first team I'm sure he'll impress and with Terry and Cahill the only main centre backs he may get that chance.

Prediction - 2nd

Crystal Palace

Title odds - 7500/1
Relegation odds - 9/4
Last seasons position - 11th

Down and out by December with only one win from eleven games and four points, Palace turned to Tony Pulis in December. The man who never had been relegated and many thought that it was a lost cause. But he got the team playing an attractive and effective football. With top scorer Glen Murray injured for most the season, Palace turned to Arsenal flop Marouane Chamakh who helped with 5 goals. Jason Puncheon got 7 goals, along with youngster Dwight Gayle who also had 7 (including 2 in the 3-3 draw against Liverpool, when Palace scored 3 in the last 11 minutes to all but end Liverpool's title hopes). 1 defeat in 8 games towards the end of the season rocketed Palace up the table. Solid home form under Pulis proved to be key in survival. Even beating Chelsea. That will be the same story this season, as Palace hope they don't suffer from second season syndrome. Getting Julian Speroni to sign a 1 year deal is probably Palaces best deal of the summer. The Argentine keeper was key last season and will be this season. With goals hard to come by they have turned to Fraizer Campbell from Cardiff who they hope will fire them to safety.

Key players

Julian Speroni has been at Palace for over a decade. He was there the last time they were in the Premiership, but this time they survived. With a 12 month deal under his belt, he'll be 1 of the main players once more.

Yannick Bolasie ripped teams apart on the wings last season. He has great pace and direct running causes problems for defences. One of the stars for Palaces season was playing conference football 4 years ago. Liverpool were impressed and sounded out a transfer for him this summer. But he remains a Palace player, another good season and it'll be hard to keep hold off the speedy winger.

Fraizer Campbell was Cardiff top scorer last season, but that wasn't enough to keep them up. The 1 cap England man will be hoping that he can get amongst the goals at his new club. With Puncheon and Bolasie on the wings, he will get chances. Get goals and maybe he'll have another England chance.

Young player to watch

Jonathan Williams has already established himself in the centre of midfield. The Welsh international was loaned to Ipswich due to falling out of favour with Pulis. But back and ready to get back into the team, this could be a big season for the Welshman. For club and country.
