A Look Into The 2014/2015 Serie A Season

Juventus have won three scudetto's in a row, winning last seasons by 17 points. They will be favourites to again finish top, but with manager Antonio Conte quitting at the start of pre season, they might not have it all their own way. Ex AC Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri has now been appointed and his first task will be to try and keep star midfielders Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba who have been linked with moves away. Golden oldies keeper Gianluigi Buffon and  midfield magician Andrea Pirlo will again be the main men at Juve. As to will Giorgio Chiellini in the centre of defence. Patrice Evra has been bought to strengthen the left back area and his experience will be vital after his success at Man United. One man who is bound to excite the fans is 21 year old Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata. The highly rated youngster got 10 goals for Real Madrid last season and the fans will hope he can strike a lethal partnership with Carlos Tevez.

Close on the tail of Juventus will be Rafa Benitez's Napoli who have deadly finisher Gonzalo Higuain up front will be helped by the signing of Michu on loan from Swansea for the season, with an option to buy at the end the season. There is a lot of attacking options available to Benitez, Goran Pandev, Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens, Jose Callejon and Eduardo Vargas will all help share the goals. The chances will be assisted to them by the impressive midfielders of Marek Hamsik and Gokhan Inler. One area that may need strengthening is the defence. The Coppa Italia winners will look to top the league this year. Finding a settled formation will be the key to success at Napoli.

AS Roma started last season with a bang, but it fizzled out, this season could be different. This may be the last season for club legend Francesco Totti who at 37 is still going strong, with 8 goals in 29 games last season. Gervinho, Mattia Destro, Miralem Pjanic and Adem Ljajic impressed with Totti last season and have been strengthed by summer signing Juan Iturbe. Kevin Strootman is a big influence in the centre of midfield, but injury effected his season last year. His midfield partner Daniele De Rossi will be the main man in midfield. His no nonsense approach makes him a fans favourite. Veteran holding midfielder Seydou Keita joins from Valencia to add depth in the middle of the park. Urby Emanuelson and Ashley Cole have joined on free transfers. Fans will enjoy seeing Ashley Cole and Maicon on either flank in defence. The star man at the back Mehdi Benatia impressed last season and was a wanted man in the summer, but he remains and Roma will look to go all the way.

Italian giants AC Milan and Inter Milan are now seen as outsiders for the title, where as 10 years ago they were favourites. AC have got rid of a lot of the older players in the last few years and look in a good position to challenge this season. Defender Alex and winger Jeremy Menez join from PSG, as does Real Madrid keeper Diego Lopez, all on free transfers. Left back Pablo Armero who impressed at the World Cup with Columbia joins on loan, and Adil Rami's loan deal becomes a permanent one. With impressive midfielder Sulley Muntari, Keisuke Honda, Riccardo Montolivo, Andrea Poli and Nigel de Jong they have a competitive midfield. Add to that an exciting trio upfront of Mario Balotelli, M'Baye Niang and Stephan El Shaarawy. Filippo Inzaghi's men will be looking at Champions League places for sure, maybe even higher.

Inter Milan have been busy strengthening this summer. Nemanja Vidic joins on a free from Man United and will be a hit in the middle of defence. Holding French midfielder Yann M'Villa joins from Rubin Kazan on loan. Whilst Gary Medel joins from Cardiff for £10 million, these 2 could force a tough tackling partnership in midfield. Goals will be hard to come by, Southampton's forward Dani Osvaldo comes in to try and help Rodrigo Palacio and Mauro Icardi find the net. Some more signings are still needed to challenge for the title, but a Champions League places isn't exactly beyond them.

Lazio, Torino and Fiorentina will be pushing for European places, where as mid table looks likely for Atlanta, Cagliari, Genoa, Sampdoria, Udinese, Verona and Parma. It looks like 3 out of 5 at the bottom to go down them 5 being Chievo and Sassuolo who beat the drop last year, along with the 3 newly promoted teams Cesena, Empoli and Palermo.

A Look Into The Bundesliga 2014/2015 Season

Last season Bayern Munich won the title on March 25th, with 7 games remaining. They finished on 90 points, 19 ahead of 2nd place Borussia Dortmund. Winning 19 straight games and being unbeaten in 28. Unfortunately for Pep Guardiola he couldn't repeat the achievements of the previous season, where under Jupp Heynckes they won the treble. It was always going to be a tough ask to follow, but Guardiola is regarded a one of the best managers in the world after what he achieved at Barcelona, where he won 14 major trophies in 4 seasons. Bayern were humiliated in the semi finals of Europe's biggest club competition when they beaten 5-0 over two legs by eventual winners Real Madrid, losing the home tie at the Allianz Arena 4-0. This was hard for the club to take, with many people questioning if Guardiola was as great as he's been made out to be. But a Bundesliga title, the DFB-Polka Cup along with the UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Club World Cup isn't bad for a first season. This season Bayern will look to win everything, and on the back of Germany's World Cup win, (in which Bayern had 6 players in the squad) confidence will be high. For the second season running, Bayern have taken one of their rivals best players. Last season it was wonderkid Mario Gotze who left for £30 million. This time it's harder for the Dortmund fans to take, star striker Robert Lewandowski has joined on a free transfer. He'll team up to form a deadly trio with pacey wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. Bayern have arguable the best squad in Germany, Manuel Neuer is regarded as the worlds best keeper, and that's hard to argue with after his displays at the World Cup, which earned him the golden gloves award. They also have very versatile players in defence, Philipp Lahm is one of the best right backs in the business, but plays as a holding midfielder where he is equally as good, as to is left back David Alaba who can also play central midfield. Thomas Muller gives them a different option in attack, he drifts from wing to wing as well as centrally and gets his fair share of goals. At just 24 he already has 115 in 291 games for Bayern. It looks like this Bayern team could win everything put infront of them this season.

Runners up Borussia Dortmund will be the main threat as Bayern look to win the title for a 3rd consecutive season. They will have to do this without 20 goal top scorer Lewandowski. It'll be interesting to see how the fans treat him on his return to the Signal Iduna Park. With many more key players being rumoured to leave, they will hope to keep everybody else at the club. Dortmund have a young exciting team, playing good football under manager Jurgen Klopp, which always attracts interest from other clubs. Matts Hummels had a great World Cup being a rock in defence and scoring 2 goals whilst Germany tasted World Cup glory. The former Bayern Munich man has been linked to a move back to Bayern in recent weeks, as well as a move to the Premiership, with Man United and Arsenal interested. If Dortmund were to sell, which doesn't look likely. It'll be a big price to take the 25 year old German away from the club. Marco Reus scored 23 goals last season with 18 assists in all competitions, proving that he's more than capable of replacing the goals of Lewandowski. But an injury ruled him out of the World Cup where he was going to play a major part for Germany. Fitness will be an issue at the start of the season and Dortmund will hope he won't be out for to long, otherwise Bayern could already be out of reach. Another German player to miss the World Cup was Ikay Gundogan, the midfield playmaker is another injury doubt for the start of the season, but he looks like he'll be back to full fitness sooner rather than later. New signing Ciro Immobile joins after a great season in Serie A with Torino, where he finished top scorer with 22 goals in 33 games. As does former player Nuri Sahin who has only played 22 games in 2 years after leaving for Real Madrid and then a loan deal to Liverpool. Premier League fans might want to look out for Sunderland flop Ji Dong-Won who has been signed after an impressive spell at FC Augsburg, where his 5 goals proved crucial to keep them from being relegated. Still only 23 he gets the chance to get his promising career back on track at the Bundesliga giants.

Outside of Bayern and Dortmund, I can't really see any other team challenging for the title. Schalke 04 will look to get into the title mix this season after finishing 3rd last time around. They have a good squad. Which includes Ghana's Kevin Prince Boateng a tough tackling midfielder with an eye for goal, but also who picks up his fair share of bookings. Wingers Sidney Sam and Jefferson Farfan will also help get the goals to ease the pressure on the main man upfront Dutch international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Huntelaar, who has 91 goals in 139 games for the German club, now seems settled at the Veltins Arena after spells at Real Madrid and AC Milan. But the gem in the team is young attacking midfielder Julian Draxler, many top teams have been interested with him over the last season, but he extended his contract till 2018. Despite being only 20 he has already played over 100 league games for Schalke, and is a World Cup winner. A top four finish is definitely on the cards for the team, but top 2 looks unlikely.

The 4th place finish looks to be between Bayern Leverkusen, Vfl Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach. Leverkusen will look to experienced forward Stefan Kiessling who has 111 goals for the club, to help young promising talents in 22 year old South Korean international Son Heung-Min. He impressed with 10 goals in 33 games in his first season with them last year. Swiss international Josip Drmic joins after an impressive season with 1.FC Nurnberg where he finished the season with 17 goals. Wolfsburg's Kevin De Bruyne will be looking to impress this season. The 23 year old Belgium turned his loan deal from Chelsea permanent in January for £18 million and has become a fans favourite. Veteran forward Ivica Olic will look to be amongst the goals again, after bagging 14 last season, along with Dutch forward Bas Dost. Olic's Croatian international team mate winger Ivan Perisic who impressed during the World Cup with 2 goals in 3 group games, will be a key player. One man who could leave Wolfsburg before the season starts is holding midfielder Luiz Gustavo. Real Madrid rumoured to be wanting to add his to their squad. Borussia Monchengladbach might find the 4th place finish the hardest with a fairly modest squad. Max Kruse and Raffael got 26 goals between them last season and will hope for a repeat this season. Attacking midfielder and new signing Ibrahima Traore will look to impress immediately after joining in the summer, as will Thorgan Hazard who joins on loan from Chelsea.

Down the other end of the table Hamburger SV will look to have a better season than last year. They only managed to stay up after beating Greuther Further in the play off by away goals, after finishing just 1 point above the automatic relegation places. Captain Rafael van der Vaart will be the player they look to for inspiration. At the wrong end of the table last season, were 2 recent league winners. Werder Bremen won the league in 2004 and VFB Stuttgart in 2007, will look to avoid a relegation fight and get back up to the European places. New comers 1.FC Koln and SC Paderdorn will hope its not an instant return to the 2nd tier of German football. Other teams looking to avoid the drop will be FC Augsburg, Eintracht Frankfurt and Hannover 96. Whilst a mid table finish should be the minimum requirement for 1899 Hoffenheim, 1.FSV Mainz 05 and SC Freiburg.

One thing for sure is there will be a buzz around all the ground in Germany this season as the nation rides the wave of winning the World Cup.

A Look Into The La Liga 2014/2015 Season

Atletico Madrid did the unthinkable last season, they topped La Liga ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid. The reason this came as a shock is due to the unfair financial advantage that the big 2 get in Spanish football. Barcelona and Real Madrid get 48% of all La Liga T.v money a season between them, meaning the other 18 teams share 52% of the money. Then add the Champions League money, along with the image rights and commercial profits around the world, then the other teams just can't compete. Atletico had an incredible season last time out, finishing on 90 points (3 ahead of Barca and Real) and losing 4-1 aet to city rivals Real Madrid in the Champions League final. But this season will be alot harder for them to repeat their heroics. 38 goal star man Diego Costa has left to join Chelsea, but they have brought in an arguable better forward in former Bayern Munich man Mario Mandzukic. The Croatian got 48 goals in 88 games, but is no longer needed at the German club. Who will play alongside Antonie Griezmann who joins from Real Sociedad. Another 2 key players leave for Chelsea, left back Filipe Luis has left and will be replaced by either former Grenada man Guilherme Siqueira who was bought for £8 million, or Cristian Ansaldi who joins on a season long loan from Zenit St Petersburg. But probably the hardest player to replace is goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois who rejoins Chelsea after being on loan at the Vicente Calderon for the past 3 seasons. Jan Oblak is the man who has the hard tast of following Courtois, at only 21 the former Benfica man can be a star for many years at the club. Diego Simeone has the hard task of keeping players at Atletico, Turkish star Arda Turan is a man in demand. As to is young star Koke who has played 168 games and is only 22 has been linked to Barcelona is recent weeks. But looks likely to stay for the time being, which will please the fans as he's is crucial to what happens for Atletico this season. Unfortunately I don't see a repeat of last season happening, it looks like 3rd at best, for now and the next few seasons. But the fans still have the memories of last year.

Barcelona finished runners up last season with 87 points scoring 100 goals. But they finished the season without a trophy and Gerardo Martino leaves after only one season. His replacement is former player and fans favourite Luis Enrique who guided Celta Vigo to a 9th placed finish last season. It's been a major clear out at the Camp Nou, goalkeeper Victor Valdes leave after 12 years after deciding he wants a new challenge, whilst club captain and legend Carles Puyol retires after 593 games for the club. Enrique also decided to get rid of key players Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea and Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal. Christian Tello who is a promising youngster, who has broken into the team over the past 2 seasons also exits to Porto on a 2 year loan deal with a view to a permanent deal. But it hasn't all been exits at Barca, there have been some quality arrivals. Luis Suarez joins after scoring 82 goals in 133 games for Liverpool for £75 million. Although he isn't available for the 1st 2 months of the season after being banned for biting Giorgio Chiellini whilst playing for Uruguay against Italy at the World Cup for 4 months. Ivan Rakitic joins to play in the centre of midfield, the Croatian playmaker who captained Sevilla to Europa League glory was a barging signing for only £14.5 million and will link up with Iniesta in the midfield. New signings Marc-Andre ter Stegen (£10 million signing from Borussia Monchengladbach) and Claudio Bravo (£10 million capture from Real Sociedad) will fight it out to be the new number 1 at Barcelona. The final piece of the Barca jigsaw sees Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu come in to strengthen the defence at £16 million. Barcelona fans will be excited to see the trio of Neymar (who has scored 151 career goals at only 22). Lionel Messi (Barcelona leading goalscorers with 354 in 425 games) and new man Luis Suarez. But they won't have it all their own way this season.

Real Madrid won their 10th European cup last season. But still boss Carlo Ancelotti thought the team needed strengthening. World Cup golden boot winner James Rodriguez comes to the Santiago Bernabeu from Monaco for £71 million who at 23 has the potential to be one of the greatest ever. Another star of the World Cup is Toni Kroos who helped Germany lift the trophy in Brazil, at only £20 million this could be one of the biggest bargains ever, the 24 year old has 51 caps for Germany already, and is regarded as one of the finest midfielders around. Another player joining after a good World Cup is Costa Rican goalkeeping hero Keylor Navas, the former Levante man had a £8 million release clause in his contract which Real activated. But it remains to be seen who will get the Number 1 jersey at Madrid. Last season it was Diego Lopez, who kept Iker Casillas on the bench, could this mean that the 33 year old who made his debut in 1999 be leaving the club for 1st team football?. One thing for sure is the fans will not want to see Saint Iker leave. But if the Spanish number 1 is going to add to his 156 caps and prove that he's better than his poor performance at the World Cup shows, then being a club number 1 is a must. Just like Barca, Real have a world class team, and an incredible front line. The most expensive footballer in the world Gareth Bale who scored 22 in 44 in his 1st season at Real will play one side of Rodriguez whilst Cristiano Ronaldo will be on the other side of him. Ronaldo has a phenomenal scoring ratio since joining Real with 252 goals in only 246 games. Madrid should better the 104 goals they scored last season in La Liga. All these signing means players have to leave the Bernabeu, with World Cup winner Sami Khadira and last seasons Champions League final man of the match Angel Di Maria looking likely to leave the club. Another man rumoured to be on his way out is Karim Benzema who has 111 goals in 235 games for the club. But his departure will only be if rivals Atletico Madrid's former star striker Radamel Falcao joins from Monaco in a big money deal.

Outside these top 3, there isn't much hope for the other teams. The final Champions League place will be an interesting fight, with 5 teams aiming for that 1 spot. Athletic Bilbao took that place last season and will be aiming to again, they will look to Aritz Aduriz to fire them to that 4th place finish again, but will find it harder without influential midfielder Ander Herrera who joins Man United. But they have managed to keep hold of much wanted winger Iker Muniain who is one of the hottest prospects in Spanish football. Real Sociedad who played in the Champions League last season, have lost 2 key players, Chilean keeper Claudio Bravo and Antoine Griezmann have left, which means that it's a tough ask for Sociedad to get 4th place this season. Valencia will be looking to improve on the 8th placed finish last season and have some quality players in Jonas, Sofiane Feghouli, Andres Guardado and new summer signing Rodrigo. Sevilla won last seasons Europa League but have lost captain Rakitic who was instrumental for them last season. This season Kevin Gameiro will look to better the 15 he scored in the league last year, alongside strike partner Carlos Bacca. Villarreal were last seasons surprise package, getting 6th place after being promoted the season before. They will again look to the influence of Giovani dos Santos who got 12 goals in 34 games along with forward Ikechukwu Uche 14 goals in 32 games. Another player who could play a key part is Jonathan de Guzman back after 2 years on loan at Swansea.

Survival will be the main aim for Almeria, Elche and Granada. Along with new comers Eibar and Cordoba (who finished 7th and outside the play off places last season in the Segunda Division. But due to Barcelona B not being able to gain promotion they took the final place, and won promotion) Deportivo La Coruna are back in the top division and will look for a comfortable mid table finish along with the likes of Espanyol, Getafe, Levante, Malaga and Rayo Vallecano.

La Liga looks like a 2 horse race this season, which could come down to which team performs best in the El Clasico games, which the whole world can't wait to see.
